In many regards Ryan is your average 9 year old Seattleite. But when she picks up her Ukulele, inspired by her love for our four-legged friends, Ryan has been able to raise thousands of dollars for animal rights organizations around the world.
Ryan, and her proud parents, Ophelia and Chris de Serres, have utilized social media to empower their tween and amplify her message through Ryan’s project, Play for Apaws. Weekly she researches an animal rights organization she wants to spotlight. In order to raise much needed awareness and money for these charities, she learns, rehearses, and uploads a new song, which she both sings and plays Ukulele to.
Ryan’s super power is combining her passion and compassion with action. Something anyone can do, but most don’t. Rather than distracting herself through another day via social media, video games and Youtube, she chose instead to focus on animals in need, and educating herself about fellow heroes and heroic organizations helping our four-legged friends.
What’s your passion or special skill? What is a cause you are passionate about? What is an action (it doesn’t need to be big) that you could take to help that cause? Now do it!
Bring School Heroes Unite to your school, and through the development of heroism, empathy and teamwork foster the next Ryan de Serres in your community.
